News: McDonald's Canada Featuring Three New Menu Items for Olympics

I found out from Fast Food Maven that McDonald's Canada is offering three special menu items in honor of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

I'm not sure what the items have to do with the Olympics, but they are: S'mores Pie, Creme Brulee Crunch McFlurry, and Spicy Szechwan and Zesty Mango dipping sauces for Chicken McNuggets.

I guess S'mores Pie (I wonder if the crust is graham cracker?) makes sense as a winter treat that you can enjoy around the fireside and it's not a stretch to say the Creme Brulee Crunch McFlurry (regular soft-serve with bits of caramelized sugar and caramel syrup) is a frosty winter treat but what about the dipping sauces?!  (Okay, I did some research... the sauces are "gold" for a "Share the Gold" theme.)  I'm surprised they didn't make a special McCafe coffee offering for the promotion.

We probably will be getting the same gold sauces here in the States (Edit: No gold sauces for us! Sweet Chili sauce instead).  According to McDonald's Twitter, a top athlete will be dropping by McDonald's restaurants that feature a "How Do You McNugget" sign this Friday.  It seems like it might be related.  (Update: athletes include Dwight Howard in Dallas, TX and Dustin Byfuglien in Chicago, IL. Check McDonald's Twitter for the latest details.)

I managed to find a review of the S'mores Pie here, a couple pictures of the Creme Brulee McFlurry here and here, but no reviews or (non-promotional) pictures of the new dippings sauces but I would hazard to guess they look and taste like some derivative of McDonald's Sweet and Sour sauce.

  1. I want to try the dipping sauces. I loved the curry dipping sauce they have in Europe. Too bad McD's in the US isn't so adventurous.
