It seems a bit redundant to review the Burger King Buck Double seeing how I already reviewed the
Burger King Double Cheeseburger but I'm doing it anyway, just for the sake of posterity and all that.
The
Buck Double features
a quarter pound of flame-broiled ground beef in two patties with a slice of melted American cheese between them on a toasted sesame bun. Condiments come in the form of
two slices of pickle, a dollop of ketchup, and a dollop of mustard. And yes, I did want to just use "dollop" twice in a sentence in typing it that way. The Buck Double costs... wait for it...
a buck! Shocker, I know.
While the bun is soft and toasted, the thing that might disapoint you about a fast food chain's toasting is that it's almost never
freshly toasted which means that the toasted surface isn't crunchy but still serves to buffer against the bun getting soggy. It's not a big thing but sometimes you notice it.
As you might know by now, the Buck Double is only different from the Double Cheeseburger in that it has only one slice of cheese instead of two. Also the Double Cheeseburger is now priced at a suggested retail of $1.19.
I like the one slice of cheese better than two slices of cheese. I can better taste the slightly charred beef while still getting some cheese flavor. The pickles this time were very crunchy and combined well with the tart sweetness of ketchup. Overall, I liked the Buck Double a little better than the Double Cheeseburger.
