Review: McDonald's Caramel Frappé

McDonald's Caramel Frappé
McDonald's latest McCafe coffee-based beverage offerings, the Frappés, come in two varieties: Caramel and Mocha.  Having already written about the Mocha, this review covers the Caramel Frappé.

Much like the Mocha Frappé, the Caramel Frappé features a pre-mixed mostly coffee, cream, milk, and corn syrup base blended with ice and topped with whipped cream and a squeeze of caramel syrup.  A 16-ounce cup costs $2.29 but I got a 7-ounce free sample in a McDonald's parfait cup at a "try-our-new-Frappés" event.

Of the two, I much prefer the Mocha Frappé; both Frappés are creamy and really sweet but the Caramel has a strong caramel flavor that, while I'm sure a lot of people will like, kicks the sweetness to a place that is just no longer tasty for me.

Still, I think McDonald's has a winner with the Caramel Frappé and Starbucks has some serious competition as the taste is very similar to a Caramel Frappuccino while at a lower price range ($2 to $3 compared to $3 to $5).
