Review: Jell-O Temptations - Strawberry Cheesecake

Jell-O Temptations are slightly more upscale, layered, derivatives of their more standard fare of gelatin and pudding. I recently tried the Strawberry Cheesecake flavor which comes three cups to a package on sale for $2.50 (suggested retail is $2.89).

Rather than their standard clear plastic cup, Jell-O opted to go with an opaque black cup; probably because some marketing wonks thought black would be fancier. I prefer the clear cup because it's just more interesting to see what's inside.
Each cup is filled with what I would describe as a cheesecake mousse topped with semi-set strawberry-flavored gelatin. The gelatin on top was slightly disappointing; I was expecting more of a sauce or some strawberries although I think either might compact the underlying mousse. Flavor-wise, the gelatin on top had a richer (albeit artificial) strawberry flavor than your typical Jell-O.
I expect that it's very much like a Jell-O no-bake cheesecake but I've never tried one of those. It's enjoyable; a bit like a cheesecake cream pie if you're in the mood for such especially if you're counting calories but it's also kinda pricey for Jell-O (but I suppose reasonable for cheesecake). The Sister thought it was better than a defrosted frozen cheesecake but me, I'm not so sure.
I don't think I'd buy it again but considering that they're aren't that many (or sometimes any) options for a single serving of strawberry cheesecake at the supermarket, I've seen these run out at my local supermarket before and no, there was not a huge sale.

  1. please people... GET OVER IT! this is a blog about food, not about commercials! brandeating.com has absolutely nothing to do with kraft foods, the main distributors of jello. stop posting these comments here and instead go to kraftfoods and complain to them via e-mail or boycott. geez don't get so offended over meaningless things. use your energy to do something productive. wanna fight something? fight the government, fight the fact that children and teenagers can't get the education they deserve and cannot afford the education they need because of the huge education deficits. how about complaining about that?.

  4. No you DON'T would STOP pretending to be a "we", please???? You are one person, the SAME person, making up neurotic crap repetitively. STOP. It's really very offensive to people who know what actual child abuse is, and it's obvious what you're doing. No one ever got "abused" in the form of freakin' JELLO and you know it so knock it off!

  5. If others feel as you do, it could explain why our society has become the whining, sensative, make nice, tree hugging, spineless group we are currently experiencing in Society, as well as on Capitol Hill. Has everyone lost their sense of humor????? Kids are as resilient as you allow them to be. If you teach them to be offended, scared, and put down by things that happen in the "Real World", they will undoubtedly comply with, and mimick "Your Fears". My generation of kids were brought up with hearing stories of "Trolls under Bridges", Wolves eating Pigs, Witches fattening up Hansel and Gretel (for her meal), and Red Riding Hood being persued by the Big Bad Wolf. It was fantasy, and our "Mentally Healthy" parents taught us it was fantasy. You've missed the whole point of the commercial. It's an "Adult Desert". Instead of being afraid for the children, how about taking some responsibility to explain "To the children", the humor intended in the commercial.....That is..if you understood the humor...Geeeeeezz Lighten up.

  6. Whatever. I thought the commercial was hilarious. Although, saying the jello was for adults only made it seem like some kind of sex fetish.

  8. I just saw the commercial for jello strawberry cheesecake temptations and it was very disturbing! It is so frightening to children. Who would even think that would sell a food product. please re-consider the language of the commercial

  9. The commercial support emotional abuse of children. If that was for real I work report the parents for child abuse. Words like these are just so close to desesnsitizing people to accepting abuse, "in a hol;e for a hundred years". sleep well!!!

  10. Sanibel22 is an idiot! Those are NOT real parents! Those children are NOT having fun, they are being terrorized by the people they are supposed to trust above all others. It's disgusting you would find those commercials remotely entertaining, you psycho!

  20. It's not funny you are not a small child. And what so you want to raise children who become terrorists?!!!

  21. OMG YA'LL NEED A LIFE....Grandma tell me this if a child took something you specifically told them to not touch what would you do as punishment to them. I mean technically they were stealing so what they get time-out. You must not be of color cause I would get popped on the hands these kids got off easy. It was funny the fact that you would get worked up over a commercial is sad. Remember just because you have had kids doesn't make you a good parent and also we were all kids at one point in our lives

  22. we think that the commericals of jello temptations are a form of child abuse. we will not buy your product.

  23. I sort of agree butSunday, January 22, 2012

I agree. It is obviously the work of one person who is taking issue with the commercial on not only the wrong website, but also the wrong group of people. They should have taken it to a site and group of people who are set up for complaints against commercials. As for what to complain about: the underlying issue is correct. There are issues with commercials and advertising in general but it should be taken to the correct outlets. As you say there are other things to complain about (and do something about--since complaints are fruitless if there's no volunteering or protest etc) that need to be complained about. However I'd argue that all things need to be addressed.

  24. For the price it's about reasonable when comparing to the sliced cheesecake sold in the bakery. However the main reason why people would be interested would be for the calorie and fat count. It's not bad and the taste isn't that bad either. I got what I expected basically.

  25. You guys don't for one second actually believe that the one person calling this "child abuse" and using several different screen names to do it is actually several people, do you? I mean, none of you are dumb enough to not recognize that this is some sad mentally ill person all by his or her self, right?.....And making up different screen names and stuff to make it look like several people.......

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's not an "everybody". It's one mentally sick, lonely person with no life pretending to be more than one person. It's really very sad that someone needs to put out all that effort to harass a comment board, having so little of their own life. Very sad. They need to get some help.

  27. Child abuse? Really? My only question is why they would advertise a sweet treat for adults only. Makes one wonder if there is alcohol or sex involved. Just weird advertising that doesn't persuade me in the least to go out and buy the product. Come on guys, you can come up with a better ad than that.

  28. YOUR COMMERCAL STINKS I AM A MOTHER OF TWO AND A GRANDMA OF TWO. I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE OFFENDED AS I WAS WITH YOUR COMMERCIALS AND I COULD NOT BELEIVE IT WAS JELLO! WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU THINK THAT SCARING KIDS WOULD MAKE A PERSON BUY YOUR PRODUCT? I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT JELLO WAS FOR KIDS?YOU JUST CHANGED MY WHOLE OPINION ABOUT YOUR COMPANY WHICH WILL NOT CHANGE FOR A LONG TIME. I WILL NOT BE PURCHASING YOUR PRODUCT ANYMORE. GOOD JOB JELLO. THIS WAS A VERY POOR CHOICE ON THE PART OF JELLO AND I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN YOUR COMPANY . ALSO THIS IS NOOOOO JOKE, AND ANY IDIOT THAT SAYS SO DOESNT HAVE KIDS

    ReplyDelete
  29. Tastes absolutely NOTHING like cheesecake OR strawberries.  I won't be buying this again.  Give me plain old jello!

  30. haha rose ann, its a commerical. get over it and get a life.

  31. You and the other "accounts" seriously need to stop trolling. Also caps is not cruise control for cool. It's rude and on the internet is seen as yelling. So please stop yelling like the petulant child you're sounding like. If you can say it calmly then obviously you shouldn't say it at all.

  32. I LOVE these commercials!! It shows real parents having fun with their kids!

    ReplyDelete
  33. THANK YOU!! It's hilarious and very innocent! Good grief people, where's your sense of humor?! :)

  34. So let me get this straight? This commercial will make terrorists out of children? Can you please remember to take your medication? Or seek help? Because no offense if anyone get that disturbed after one commercial then there's obvious mental disorder there..

  35. I WAS WATCHING THE COMMERCIAL FOR JELLO TEMPTATIONS STRAWBERRY CAKES, IT IS A SHAME THAT YOU PEOPLE MADE A COMMERICLA LIKE THAT...TWO PARENTS SCARING THEIR LITTLE CHILDREN IT WAS SO SAD......THAT IS A CRUEL COMMERCIAL, I SPOKE TO SEVERAL PEOPLE AND THEY AGREED WITH ME. LOOKING AT THE PARENTS MADE ME HATE THEM......VERY SAD......WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THE JELLO DESSERTS...............SO SAD I WOULD NOT BUY THAT PRODUCT. TAKE IT OFF THE AIR OR APOLOGIZE TO PEOPLE......

  36. Wow, I finally saw one of these commercials, and I thought it was mildly funny and not abusive at all. It's just a joke! It's not a reality show, although those are often jokes too. It's called fiction... and it's not like the parents were striking their kids with weapons or doing something else equally outrageous. Ask the child actors how scary it was lol, and ask them if they'd give back their acting check in protest.

But hey... liberal fascists who get offended by somewhat edgy commercials are entitled to their opinion too. This is America, right? ;)

  37. I've tried most of the Jell-O Temptations flavors, my fav being lemon meringue and key lime. For some reason, the supermarkets in this area are no longer carrying the product.  I'm so disappointed because I really like it...A LOT!
