McDonald's is promoting it with the Strawberry Shake (not new), to welcome the Spring I think.
I picked a warm one up at my local McDonald's for 89 cents.
The crust had the same crispy, slightly flaky texture of McDonald's baked pies but also had a baked-on sprinkling of sugar that gave the crust an extra bit of sweetness (but not as sweet as the sugar cookie crust of the Holiday Pie).
Inside the strawberry was mostly like a jam. Not exactly the taste of fresh strawberries, it was a little bit artificial tasting (like strawberry syrup) and gave an even, consistent mouth-feel. I could see the occasional bits of strawberries and strawberry seeds but didn't really notice them in my mouth. Still, I like strawberry, artificial or not.
The creme filling was a very soft, lightly-sweetened, cream-cheese-like experience. It muted the stronger, sweeter notes of the strawberry and struck a good balance with the strawberry side.
I thought McDonald's Strawberry and Creme Pie was pretty good and novel to boot. Strawberry and Creme isn't a taste I've found in my fast food eating and the combination of tart and creamy plus soft and crispy is quite enjoyable. Plus it's cheap!
I'd get it again if I were at McDonald's and had a hankering for a warm dessert. I'd definitely get it over the Apple Pie and the Cinnamon Melt.
