Review: Subway - Smokehouse BBQ Chicken

Subway's Smokehouse BBQ Chicken Sub is a limited-time menu item that looks to add a bit of barbecue to Subway's meat selection.

I picked up a Footlong at my local Subway for $6.

I got it like on the menu board with just lettuce, tomatoes, and red onions on Italian bread. The shredded chicken comes pre-measured in little trays that they dump onto the bread before swigging on some barbecue sauce from a squeeze bottle. It's an overly sweet concoction with a slight tang.
If you're looking for smokiness, Subway's Smokehouse BBQ isn't going to do it for you. Both the chicken and the sauce are disappointing in their decided lack of smokiness.
The chicken is mostly salty but otherwise bereft of flavor. Paired with the veggies and bread, the red onions are actually the strongest flavor.
The overall result is an unnotable, banal effort, full of blah and ho-hum. Swing and a miss.
