As it is on the Dollar Menu, it is offered for $1.
The burger reminds me a smaller version of the recent Cheddar Bacon Onion, but somehow the one I ordered contained more onions than the "premium" Cheddar Bacon Onion that I tried. The onions were grilled to the point of charring and delivered a strong, slightly sweet flavor uninhibited by any sauces or other powerful flavors. I worry that the amount of onions given will vary wildly from location to location marring what should be a consistent experience.
McDonald's hamburger patty might be the smallest in the business, but that works to its advantage here as the flavor of the cheese and the onions are on full tasty display. It's certainly not a burger patty to strive for, but size notwithstanding, it is pretty standard as far as fast food chains go.
The cheese is a very mild cheddar and provides mostly a nice creaminess that doesn't overpower the beef of the burger patty.
The bun had a nice squishiness and wasn't too dense or light. McDonald's regular hamburger bun is actually very nice.
The overall result is a pretty good burger that actually lives up to the name. As long as you like a mild cheddar and grilled onions, there's simple enjoyment to be found in the new Grilled Onion Cheddar Burger.

reminds me of a white castle slider. I add mustard...not bad for a buck!
ReplyDeleteAll bun, tiniest burger I've ever seen at about 1/8" thick! 1 tsp of onions!? DRY! Hack hack! It was the worst thing I've ever eaten from McD's. I had to warm it up in the microwave, but the burger is so thin, it couldn't retain the heat and was cold again a few minutes later. Fail! Try again! Bigger burger, higher price, more onions, please!
ReplyDeleteI rather go with the McDouble and have an extra beef patty. But for those who love grilled onions, it may be worth a try.
ReplyDeleteI like it!
ReplyDeletei really liked..a lot for only 1 dollar. For a 1 dollar burger it was awesome..love the grilled onions
ReplyDeleteJust tried it. It was good. Nothing I'd ever crave, but it was okay for a quick lunch.
ReplyDeleteLove it...all fast food should offer grilled onions as an option...
ReplyDeleteI had one. it was horrible. super small burger. barely any onions. cheese not melted at all. so dry it was ridiculous and not even warm at all. horrible.
ReplyDeletewoooaahh, slow down big bertha.
ReplyDeletepeople keep saying Super Small burger... is ANYONE here old enough (25 here)... old enough to remember that Mcdonalds burgers were originally very small and simple and really freaking cheap? Mind you also just good for a quick meal or tasty snack..... When I was 11 i remember being able to buy their burgers for a deal for 39-49 cents each- burger or with cheese...its the same burger.. the American dollar sucks now.... and change is USELESS
ReplyDeleteHa, you think McDonald's has the smallest meat patty? Try eating at Steak n Shake. The last regular burger I got from there, the meat patty was the thickness of the cardboard on a typical shipping box, if that thick.
ReplyDeleteIt got cold a few min later? If the burger was the smallest you've ever seen then it shouldn't have taken more than a few min to finish it.
ReplyDeleteSucks that I don't like onions(Unless they're French Fried, or they are onion rings.)
ReplyDeleteHow many would fill you up? 30 or 40
ReplyDeleteInconsistency in preparation seems to be a huge problem with this burger. I've had one that was absolutely loaded with sweet, dark, caramelized onions and the cheese was melted and gooey. Needless to say, that one was delicious! But then I also had one with a tiny dollop of just lightly grilled onions in the center (just barely grilled and not even close to caramelized) and the burger was actually cold, with the cheese unmelted and hard/dry at the edges...
ReplyDeleteNot bad for a dollar burger. I don't care much for plastic processed cheese, but the grilled onions really elevate the flavor. Unfortunatly, it's only one thin patty and too much bun. Would be a steal if they made it a double and sold it for $1.29 or even $1.50, but for the dollar price point I'd prefer a Mcdouble. I only eat mcdonalds when i'm drunk and/or stoned.
ReplyDeleteThe bun to, well, not bun ratio on this item is way out of whack. It tastes like a beef, cheese and flavored bun. I suggest buying two and discarding the bottom bun on each and slapping them together to make one properly proportioned burger.

ReplyDeleteI became addicted immediately. Of course there's always variations from store to store or at different times of the day with different cooks on the job. Such is life! At just $1 and 360 calories of deliciousness, there's no need to mess with perfection. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteit's horrible on its own but try this. mix it with a mcdouble. It will taste alright.
ReplyDeleteGood mix of flavors. I agree that it is good without any sauce. I am a huge sauce fan and always wonder what would taste good on it without drowning the flavor.
ReplyDeleteunecessarily mean
