This one is very similar to the Beefy Cheesy Burrito I wrote about earlier, but with a different flavor component with the beans instead of seasoned ground beef.
The beans add an earthiness over the more seasoned flavor of the ground beef. It's a plainer flavor that allows the rice and cheese to shine a little bit more. They're both nice, but the beef stands alone better; I remember I didn't like the Bean Burrito too much.
Overall, the Cheesy Bean & Rice Burrito is a solid value burrito with a good amount of flavor and enough variety to keep it interesting.

How does this compare to the El Pollo Loco BRC? It looks smaller. El Pollo's used to be $1 but I think it's like $1.29 now or something. Two of them do a pretty good job of filling you up.

ReplyDeleteFavorably. I think it comes down to preference. While both bean-based, the BRC is mostly whole beans, while Taco Bell is the more pasty refried version. The rice are also very different in flavor, with Taco Bell's version now more herb-based to El Pollo Loco's more traditional tomato-based rice.

Thank you. I was thinking the same. I have ordered bean burritos from taco stands assuming that would take it upon them selves to throw a little flavor in there; cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo, something...anything. Nope. Just beans with beans on top.
ReplyDeleteTucson Taco Bells are offering Black Bean Burritos. Pretty good but there was a little stale white rice in mine. I am not sure if the rice was supposed to be included or not.
ReplyDeleteI hate that they seem to use nacho cheese in so many of their new items. I just don't want to have that inside my burritos, tacos and etc. I love it for dipping my tortilla chips in though.
