Review: Wendy's - Asiago Ranch Flatbread Sandwich

Wendy's new Asiago Ranch Flatbread Sandwich features grilled chicken breast strips, spring mix, tomatoes, natural Asiago cheese, applewood-smoked bacon, and creamy Asiago ranch sauce, folded in a five-grain toasted flatbread.

I picked one up from my local Wendy's for $4.09.

The sandwich was a bundle of warmth out of the bag. It had around the same heft as a premium chicken sandwich from Wendy's.

The flatbread comes warm and has a chewy thin crust. It's clearly been toasted but by the time I unwrapped it, whatever crispiness there was had softened. It's not quite as pillowy as the kind they use at Subway or Taco Bell, but it does feel better-for-you, but not in a bad way. There's the occasional crunch from the grains in the bread as well as some nuttiness. It's different, but tasty.

Inside the sandwich, is a nice mix of spring greens, and nary a piece of iceberg lettuce to be found. It adds to that healthy vibe, but the subtle flavor is lost against the Asiago ranch. The tomato slices were a little too soft, but okay otherwise.

Between the slice of cheese and the sauce (but mostly the sauce), there's a good bit of cheesy flavor to be found here. I could actually taste the Asiago. There was a little bit too much sauce though and it made for a bit of a mess as it dripped from the sandwich.

The grilled chicken slices were thick, juicy, and flavorful. Unfortunately, there was only enough to cover about two thirds of a flatbread half, leaving me with mouthfuls of bread and ranch at the hinge. The chicken was thick enough that there would have been enough in every bite had it been shredded, but it was only cut into four slices.

The sandwich also came with two slices of bacon, which is a bit thicker at Wendy's and tasty to boot.

Overall, I enjoyed Wendy's Asiago Ranch Flatbread Sandwich quite a bit. There's a fair amount of distinctive flavors here that work very well together and the sandwich actually lives up to the "Asiago Ranch" designation. My only complaints were of operational mishaps (over-saucing and poor chicken coverage) rather than design.

  1. Great review... and I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed with how fast you're getting to many of these new items recently.

  2. The smoky honey mustard version is the best thing I've had from Wendy's in a long time! Hopefully these things will stick around.

  3. totally agree with accessment of the sandwich, especially the comment about the excessive sauce. I would order again but have them put sauce on side

  5. Try a different Wendy's. We tried both flatbread sandwiches tonight, and asked for the dressing on the side. We spread a very thin layer of it on the sandwich and it was great! We have a very good Wendy's close to us, and while we rarely eat fast food, we will be eating this again! Lots of spring mix, nice slices of tomato, and excellent chicken. Super quick sandwich, and ours was $3.59. Hope they keep it on the menu!

  6. I just had the Asiago Ranch Chicken Flatbread from Wendys.

I really liked the spring mix lettuce and the flatbread itself. It had lots of flavor and I always try to make "healthy choices" when at fast food, this made me feel like I was.

However, there isnt barely enough chicken on this flatbread. I agree with the other reviewer here who said it only covers 2/3 of the flatbread AT BEST.

Dont know if Ill get it again. Helped that I also had the free coupon. If I didnt have the coupon, I would've gotten something else.

All in all I give it 3 stars, out of 5.

  7. Has any one compared the size of the sandwich received with what you get in the store? Wendy's own words, when questioned about the, were that the ad version is created in a lab for advertisement purposes. It looks of good size, with a good portion of chicken. What was served to my wife and I should have been presented on a cracker as snack. VERY small with little chicken. Store employee explained that it contained only 1/2 of a chicken breast.

The ad is deceitful and Wendy's won't acknowledge it.
