Frito Lay recently brought back their
"Do Us a Flavor" chip flavors for a limited time. Since I missed them the first time around, I picked up a bag of
Lay's Chicken & Waffles-flavored potato chips because it sounded the weirdest of the three (the other two are Sriracha and Cheesy Garlic Bread).
A 9.5-ounce bag was
on sale for $2.50.
These smell and taste weird. You might like them if you enjoy putting syrup on potato chips (or think it would be a good idea).
Before even biting into one, I get a whiff of syrupy maple but somehow not in a good way.
The initial taste is an slightly-off caramelly maple syrup and waffle affair followed by a chicken flavor that reminds me of Nabisco's Chicken in a Biskit crackers.
Overall, while these are edible I'm can't say I enjoyed Lay's Chicken & Waffles-flavored potato chips at all. That weird maple syrup flavor on a potato chip just does not work for me. I think I can get behind just the chicken flavor divorced from the sweetness though. I imagine
Canada's current "Do Us a Flavour" candidate Maple Moose to be similar to this.
