Review: Pizza Hut - BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza

Pizza Hut's BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza features barbecue sauce, classic meatballs, hardwood-smoked bacon, fresh red onions and diced Roma tomatoes with a barbecue sauce drizzle and toasted cheddar crust.

It's recommended on their hand-tossed crust so that's the way I went. I paid $12 for a large.

Pizza Hut also offers the exact same pizza but with chicken instead of meatballs. They call it the "Giddy-Up BBQ Chicken."

The crust turned out rather nicely, with a satisfying crispiness on the bottom and edge crust.

The barbecue sauce delivered a honeyed sweetness, a nice smokiness, and a moderate tomato tang. A drizzle plus a layer of sauce might seem like a lot of barbecue sauce, but, thankfully, both were applied fairly lightly.

The meatballs were excellent with a meaty flavor and spongy soft texture. They didn't skimp on them either. It's nice because it's something Domino's doesn't offer (at least not in the US) and Papa John's has only offered occasionally.

The little bits of bacon were somewhat lacking in both texture and taste; I barely noticed them beyond a light smokiness and added salt.

The red onions added a contrasting bite and crunch, while the tomatoes offered a more mellow tartness.

The toasted cheddar actually tasted like cheddar and gave an enjoyable crispiness to the edge crust.

Overall, Pizza Hut's BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza was very good. The bacon was a little weak, but the meatballs were great and everything really worked well together.
