Review: Chipotle - Chorizo

Chipotle's Chorizo is new spicy sausage made with a blend of pork and white-meat chicken that's seasoned with paprika, toasted cumin, and chipotle peppers. It's seared on the grill for a bit of char.

I tried the new protein option in a burrito bowl for $7.15.

The texture of the chorizo was overly firm rather than tender. The pieces came in fairly small crumbles but weren't all that crumbly. If you're looking for something similar to seasoned taco beef in feel, this is the closest thing that Chipotle serves.

In taste, the chorizo offered a salty and more heavily seasoned profile than Chipotle's other meat options. There's slightly smokiness to go with notes of cumin, garlic, onion, and just a bit of heat. The searing lent it just a smidge of a burnt quality.

When it all comes down to it, Chipotle's Chorizo was mighty tasty but isn't likely to win the chain many new converts as the seasoning hews a little too closely to their existing offerings. If you already like the flavor of their current meats though, the Chorizo provides a more intense rendition.
