Review: Papa John's - Cheesesticks

Sometimes I get a hankering for cheese sticks that stems from back in my undergrad days when a local pizzeria would deliver to the dorms. Fortunately, some pizza chains now stock cheese sticks as a menu item including Papa John's, where they're sold at $4.99 for a 10-inch order and $5.99 for a 12-inch order.

If you've never heard of cheese sticks, it's basically a pizza, but without any sauce or toppings (beside cheese of course). Papa John's includes buttery garlic sauce and pizza sauce for dipping.
Unfortunately, the Cheesesticks at Papa John's only have a bland low fat mozzarella for the cheese portion. Lacking any spices, they were fairly thin and cardboard-like. To get any flavor, I had to douse the Cheesesticks in the accompanying dipping sauces.

I'll have to look elsewhere to satisfy any future cheese stick cravings.

Update 8/24/2012 - If you order Papa John's Cheesesticks, you have to ask for their special seasoning; it comes in green packets and add the flavor of dried Italian herbs and parmesan to the sticks. It really should be included by default, but it's not.
