Review: Qdoba - Craft 2 - Tortilla Soup and Naked Burrito

Using a 50% off coupon from playing Qdoba's M.A.S.H. game, I tried Craft 2 picking the Naked Burrito and tortilla soup for about $3.00 (regularly $5.99).

The tortilla soup had a good nuanced flavor with a nice spicy kick but was way too salty.  I had to double its volume with water to compensate for the saltiness.  It tasted good after that but was a bit thin at that point.  Also, my tortilla soup had no tortillas!  Doesn't that just make it plain "soup.".  There were some bits of chicken and vegetables involved as well as some melted cheese.  You can choose between having the tortilla soup vegetarian or with chicken.  I think I might get it again standalone on a cold day since I get double the soup by adding water!
As for the Naked Burrito (i.e. a burrito without the flour tortilla), it was just okay for me.  I think it might have been nicer with more rice in more of a rice bowl fashion.  You can have the Naked Burrito with your choice of meat, beans, and salsa and on this occasion I went with chicken, mild and medium salsa, black beans, rice, sour cream, and shredded cheese.  I also would have liked a little more chicken and stronger flavors.

On a final note, the Craft 2 was way over-packaged!  It's not very large but it came in a plastic bag big enough to fit a family-sized meal.  The tortilla soup came in a covered cup inside a small paper bag inside the big plastic bag while the Naked Burrito came in a small covered bowl that was inexplicably placed in a bigger covered bowl (which would have maybe made sense if I had ordered the taco instead of the soup; then the taco could have shared the bigger covered bowl with the Naked Burrito) and then was also placed in the big plastic bag.  Yes, my Naked Burrito was double bowled.  I think they're still working out the kinks with Craft 2 and hope it isn't a regular thing to receive so much packaging.

  1. why didn't you take pictures of the packaging? i'm a visual person and have trouble imagining what you described.
