Review: Baskin-Robbins - Cappuccino Blast

Baskin Robbins Cappuccino Blast
To me, Baskin-Robbins' Cappuccino Blast is the original ice-blended coffee drink, dating back to summers spent at my cousin's in Oregon. I would walk over to the local Baskin-Robbins and enjoy one many-a-time on a hot day. Currently (at least in the Los Angeles area), Baskin-Robbins is running a summer promotion where you can get a "small" Cappuccino Blast for $2.99 (16 oz), a "medium" for $3.99 (24 oz), or a "large" for $4.99 (32 oz!).

While, the Cappuccino Blast was originally available only in regular and Cappuccino flavor, it has since taken on various permutations such as Turtle (pralines and cream with caramel syrup), Oreo's Cookies and Cream, and Caramel. You can also now get it made with soft serve instead of ice cream. I prefer the classic Cappuccino Blast to all these newfangled concoctions.

The Original Cappuccino Blast features Arabica bean coffee and vanilla ice cream, blended with ice, and topped with whipped cream and cinnamon.

I would say the key difference between Baskin-Robbin's coffee ice-blended drink and your run-of-the-mill coffee ice-blended drink is the use of ice cream. It makes for a creamier and thicker drink. The downside is it always seems a bit icier than other ice-blended drinks and I always end up with a semi-solid slurry of ice at the tail end of my drink.

Still, the Cappuccino Blast has a fairly rich, slightly nutty coffee flavor that's very tasty. I rate it as second only to Coffee Bean's Dark Chocolate Ice-Blended.
