Review: El Pollo Loco - Jalapeno Grilled Chicken Sandwich

El Pollo Loco Jalapeno Grilled Chicken Sandwich topview
El Pollo Loco's Jalapeño Grilled Chicken Sandwich features a marinated boneless chicken breast, pepper jack cheese, sliced jalapeño peppers, a shredded blend of Romaine and iceberg lettuce, pico de gallo salsa, and a spicy Southwest sauce served on a soft, dense, grilled Telera roll. The Jalapeño Grilled Chicken Sandwich carries a premium price tag of $4.29.

On the plus side, the sandwich is nice and spicy, but not uncomfortably so. The heat keeps the sandwich interesting. The roll had a soft density that's a nice change from the typical hamburger bun.

On the other side of things, the cheese was pretty flavorless, the chicken was a bit on the salty side, and the lettuce falls out all over the place as you're trying to eat the sandwich making more of a mess than you would think. And while the Telera bun had a nice char from grilling, it didn't add any crispness to the roll.

Overall, I liked the heat, but wanted more flavor and less mess out of El Pollo Loco's Jalapeño Grilled Chicken Sandwich.
