While Banquet has been making various meat pot pies for as long as I can remember, last year, they began a foray into sweet pies which included this Cherry Berry Pie (they also come in Apple and Peach) that I recently tried. At $1 a pop, they're certainly easy on the wallet.
The Cherry Berry Pie features a pot pie style pie but with more of a dessert (read: less salty) crust filled with molten hot cherry juice (made from concentrate... bleh!) thickened into a sauce and the occasional cherries and blueberries.
The texture and appearance were fine for me but upon taking my first bite, there was just this weird taste that I can only attribute to the cherry concentrate and almond oil extract that is listed among the ingredients. It just tasted off to me. I think some people might not even notice it though so your mileage may vary. If you like the taste of almond jelly, you might like this pie as there's a bit of that flavor there.
The crust was nice and crusty though and the pie is super easy to cook. I did get a bit of spillage during cooking but the wattage on my microwave is on the high side.
I detest almond jelly (it doesn't taste anything like almond!) however and therefore Banquet's Cherry Berry Pie was fail for me. Still, at a dollar a pop, it's easy to try.

I had one of these so called "Cherry Berry" pies last night. It was the worst thing I have put in my mouth. Mud pies taste better.
ReplyDeleteNEVER, NEVER get one of these. Spend a $1.00 and get McDonald's apple pie - at least they are eatable...
Ditto to every comment here. this pie tastes like a bunch of baked chemicals. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteI bought one, tried to eat it, threw it away and complained to the company who sent me coupons which I threw away as well.
ReplyDeleteThe berry cherry is quite gross and I love berry pies. The peach pie on the other hand is quite awesome! I mean okay, it's not AMAZING, but for the price of a dollar it's actually somewhat worth it. I pop one in the oven every now and again. Try one out if you haven't.
ReplyDeleteI had the luck of trying these pies I baked one and microwaved the other, It tasted delicious out of the oven, however the one from the microwave was very dissapointing. I would gladly wait the 20 minutes for it to bake in the oven, it was worth it. I would say try it from the oven next time.
ReplyDeleteI'll be sure to do that. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteMmm... hush my mouth these tasty treats will hush anyones mouth even a babbling loud mouth babbler
ReplyDeleteThese pies are awesome! You don't know what you're talking about! Plenty of berries, plenty of cherries, plenty of apple and plenty of peaches inside these! You don't know what good taste is!
