Magnum ice cream bars are analogous to Haagen Daz super-premium ice cream bars, they're quite popular in Europe and were just recently launched by Unilever in the U.S. in six different flavors (Double Caramel, Double Chocolate, Classic, Almond, White and Dark.). The Double Chocolate bars features chocolate ice cream enrobed in a chocolatey (i.e. not technically chocolate) coating, rich chocolate sauce and then dipped in thick Belgian milk chocolate.
They're sold in a 3-pack retailing for $3.99 and can be picked up on sale for around $3.00.
At the high-end of the supermarket ice cream spectrum, Magnums come in a nice box that whispers with rounded corners that whispers "luxury" in a brown and gold color scheme. The bars themselves come in a gold metallic wrapper that makes me what to sing "I Got A Golden Ticket" from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the original and not the remake).
The Double Chocolate bar is unsurprisingly very chocolatey. This is a bar for those who really love their chocolate. It's also very rich which is typical of the super-premium brands. It was actually a little too rich for me; I was pretty satisfied after a bite and eating the whole bar (which isn't huge or anything) was a bit much. I think I'd enjoy it more in a Bon-Bon-like form.
It tastes more like a frozen chocolate bar than ice cream with the amount of rich chocolate involved. The Belgium chocolate has that familiar milky, smooth, melt-in-your-mouth flavor and the chocolate sauce was a nice touch of darker chocolate flavor.
Overall, a bit rich for me but great for chocolate lovers.
