The other new McChicken offered in conjunction with the Jalapeño Cheddar McChicken, the Cheddar Onion McChicken substitutes mayo with caramelized onions and white Cheddar cheese. Like the Jalapeño Cheddar version, it is also priced at $1.49.
The Cheddar Onion McChicken has a strong taste of sweet, caramelized onions but like the Jalapeno Cheddar McChicken, I could hardly taste the cheese. It would have been better to not include cheese at all and save me some calories.
I liked the taste of the onions. I can't say that it pairs very well with the McChicken patty though; the strong onion flavor covers up much of the McChicken seasoning. In fact, I can't think of any other fast food sandwich with as much a pronounced onion flavor.
I think the onions would taste be more congruous paired with a ground beef patty. The onions might have been a little overcooked as they were much darker than in the product pictures.
Still, I much prefer the Cheddar Onion McChicken over the Jalapeno Cheddar version and recommend it for a try if you're ever in search of new flavors at McDonald's.

I had the chance to try the new Cheddar Onion McChicken yesterday. They use the spicy patties here in TX, and I have to say it was pretty amazing. I already love the spicy chicken, but this gave it something a little extra. Hopefully they stay around for a while.
ReplyDeleteWe've got them here in Washington state too -- spicy, cheddar onion, and the jalapeno cheddar McChicken.
ReplyDeleteAre these new McChicken's a local or regional offering? I haven't seen any like this in Ohio.
ReplyDeleteMakes sense to me.
ReplyDeleteThose onions would likely go better with a hunk of cow instead of a chunk of chicken.
It's regional so far. I've heard of it in southern California and Texas. Not sure where else.
ReplyDeleteIt's just late... I'm lagging. It's up now!
ReplyDeletethis post showed up on friday? no frozen friday this week? i like those!
ReplyDeleteHopefully it's just late, I agree! :)
