The Asian-themed Healthy Choice Steaming Entrée, Sesame Glazed Chicken features chicken tenderloins with whole grain rice, water chestnuts, sugar snap peas and red peppers in a sweet sesame glaze.
Like other Steaming Entrées, this 9-ounce frozen meal is generally about $2.99 or around $2.00 on sale.
This one was mostly good for me (Get it? Healthy Choice? Mostly good? Okay, I'll stop.). I liked the veggies and the nutty whole grain rice.
The chicken was tender and the water chestnuts have that unique texture; it feels a bit like a very firm, dense watermelon.
What I didn't like was the amount of sesame glaze that they include. The sauce is salty-sweet with a tinge of sesame nuttiness with a heavy leaning towards sweet and there's enough to cover everything if not more. I would have liked a lot more with the glaze on the side (or maybe with a lot more rice to balance it out) but still, I'd eat it again.

Lol your replies are awesome, fun stuff. I watch the carbs some, but I'm still at the age where I get away with a little. Not as much as several years ago though, man those were the days. Anyways, high protein stuff can taste good too, so at least there's always that.
ReplyDeleteI imagine some of the carbs here is due to the sauce, especially the 18 grams of sugar. So I agree with BE in that it'd be great if it was on the side, I often think these frozen dinners are way too sauce heavy. Your point about veggies and rice is true too though, cheap grains often dominate cheap meals.
