Frozen Friday: Hungry-Man - Honey Bourbon Chicken Strips

Hungry-Man's Honey Bourbon Chicken Strips are a new addition to their line of "Pub Favorites" which some of my readers like to comment as not resembling any dishes they've seen served at their frequented pubs. Regardless, the new meal toes the line of standard frozen dinners with mashed potatoes, corn, and chicken. Notable distinguishing features are the honey bourbon sauce and the blend of white and yellow corn.

Retail price for a Hungry-Man tends to be around $3.69 or around $2.00 on sale.

From the picture, I thought the chicken would be breaded but it's actually a mix of breaded and battered falling somewhere between Hungry-Man's Beer Battered Chicken and Boneless Fried Chicken in texture. Not amazing but enjoyable.
The honey bourbon sauce was a bit of a surprise to me. I was expecting more of a honey bourbon barbecue sauce for some reason and found instead an actual honey bourbon sauce which tasted like a mix of honey and bourbon and not much else. There was actually a strong bourbon flavor which I found off-putting and I used the sauce very sparingly. If you really like bourbon though, this might be your cup of tea.
The yellow and white corn provided a nice look aesthetically but tasted the same as the standard stuff to me.
At the end of the day, Hungry-Man's Honey Bourbon Chicken Strips were mostly good but I just didn't like the honey bourbon sauce at all and would opt for one of the other chicken options.

  1. I just recently had this, and you're right. That sauce is pretty awful, I can't imagine anyone liking it. And I love bourbon.

Other than that, pretty decent quality chicken and potatoes. I thought the corn was better than average for a frozen food too, which is weird... corn has never made much of an impression on me.

  2. "Hungry Man" is a misnomer conjured up by what is/was likely a wimpy, skinny non-blue-collar cubical-dwelling corporate wimp.

Send that chump my way so I can put him to work for a day in the junk yard.

IF the BOY lasts I will then drag the droid to the all-ye-can-shove-into-thine-mouth buffet and show the lad how a REAL MAN (tm) eats.

    Burp.

  3. Haha can't disagree much, and definitely another fun comment. You have a very adequate vocabulary to say the least.

But for fast food dinners these are at least on the bigger side. Maybe call them "Somewhat Hungry Man" meals I guess.

  4. The burbon sauce was not good, rest of the meal was okay.  If you choose to get this, count on having your own sauce handy.

  5. jeez, the honey-bourbon sauce was a total disaster-couldn't make up my mind if it was liquid-brownie, prune-whip or secret mystery sauce. what a dud.-1
