McDonald's has a Baked Strawberry Pie available this summer for a limited-time and with limited availability. Fortunately, "limited availability" included one of my local McDonald's which offered the pies for 69 cents each or two for $1.
Each pie is dusted with cinnamon and sugar similar to the Apple version. The filling has a very red, strawberry jam color. The crust is still the same, nice flaky pie crust found in all McDonald's baked pies.
The filling is a cross between a jam and a compote but isn't as sweet. It hints at strawberry but I wish it had a little more. I was hoping for a vibrant taste closer to a Marie Callendar's Strawberry Pie where they just throw a bunch of glazed strawberries into a pie crust. But I guess this and that are two different things since these strawberries are actually cooked.
Still, I like McDonald's Strawberry Pie. There aren't many convenient options for cheap strawberry pie or strawberry pies in general so I'll take my fix where I can.

If you get one fresh out of the fryer (you must wait for it to cool or you will get burned) and you eat it...it is fabulicious! Just had my stberry pie fix tonight! YUM!
ReplyDeleteBaked 12 minutes in a convection oven. No frying.
ReplyDeleteActually baked or "faux" baked via immersion in the deep-fat-fryer?
ReplyDeleteOr is it a deep fat-fryer? Or deep fat fryer?
Hyphen placement critical to semi-critical akin to a colon and a semi-colon and a plain old colon where all pies, both good and bad, end up eventually.
To come up with this stuff I assuredly am spending too much time within the shanty but it is so dern' tootin' hot lately trekking outside the shanty for an Old Disgruntled Coot such as I could be life threatening, what with the humidity levels.
"How hot IS it ye old fart?"
So dern' hot ye reprobate that an internal A/C setting of 85 farenheit units feels cool in comparison to external ambient temperatures and that the letter delivery lackey was found to have become a mere puddle upon the sidewalk with two unblinking eyeballs peering upwards.
I think they are actually baked since they don't taste nearly as good as when they were actually deep fried years ago.
ReplyDeleteRally's still deep frys their apple pies and they are much much tastier, imho.
Another victim of the health police.
As often as they change their minds, I wouldn't be a bit suprised if deep frying was considered healthy in twenty years and we will wonder at how backward we were back in 2010.
I still remember when I had a doctors visit followed by a dentist's visit in the same day. The chart on the doctors wall of what to eat/not to eat to keep your body healthy was almost an exact opposite of what the chart on the dentist's wall said to eat/not to eat to keep your teeth healthy.
Eat what you want, but in moderation, I believe is the best idea.
Absolutely Delicious!!! I wish they would become a permanent dessert item...I am not a pie lover, especially fruit pie, but this strawberry cream pie is so good that its hard to believe I just went through a drive-up and had this handed to me at my car. It is so great that it could easily be served in a diner or cafe'.
ReplyDeleteKudos, Good Job and all other accolades McDonalds
what are the ingredients ? i am a vegetarian and am hoping that there isnt any carmine in them.
ReplyDeleteI don't know. You might check out the McDonald's website or contact them directly.
ReplyDeleteEasily one of the best comments I've read all year. And to think it was prefaced by Jabba-like goo! :-)
ReplyDeleteI work at Mickey D's and we bake our pies.. Some bigger cities might deep fry their pies, but we don't...
ReplyDeleteLOVE! LOVE! LOVE THIS PIE! PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING THIS A PERMANENT MENU ITEM!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletethis is embarrassing for me but I think this pie is so good that sometimes I get off work and go through the drive thru and only order 3 pies nothing else and sometimes I even go to a different mcdonald's just so the people won't be thinking wow you were here yesterday
ReplyDeleteThey are already out of stock @ my McDonald's. These really need to be a regular item! Put them on the menu permanently! PLEASE!
