Review: Tostitos - Artisan Recipes - Roasted Garlic & Black Bean

Tostitos Artisan Recipes tortilla chips are an "artisan" take on the common tortilla chip with various ingredients  mixed into the chip itself. The Roasted Garlic & Black Bean Artisan Recipe Tostitos Chips uses dried black beans and a 9-grain blend to create a fairly interesting tortilla chip.

A 9.75-ounce bag retails for about $3.99 with a sale price ranging from $2.00 to $3.00.

The blend of 9-grains gives the Roasted Garlic & Black Bean chips a slightly different texture than the typical Tostitos. The chips felt a little thinner and slightly more brittle. It's not a glaring difference, it just feels a little different. The chips are also, on average, smaller than your typical Tostitos.
I wasn't sure what to think of roasted garlic and black bean as a flavor but it really works. You can taste a hint of black bean in the chip and it's seasoned with a blend of spices including onion powder, garlic powder, and sugar. The resultant chips pack a nice bit of flavor and nuances without the abundant (some would say "over-abundant") seasoning of a Doritos chip.

I have to say, I really liked these chips and had to stop myself before I absent-mindedly ate the whole bag.

  3. I love these. They are fantastic. I found them in Hawaii, but can't find them here in Oregon...until yesterday, when I found them in small single serving bags at Wallgreens. Where can I find these in the big bags? Are they still in regional testing or are they rolling these out? They are on the tostitos website, so there's hope.

  4. These taste like nuclear waste. If there are 9 grains you cannot taste anything but the artificial salt flavoring. Phooey! I got ripped off.
