Review: Popeyes - New Rip'n Chick'n

Popeyes' new, limited-time Rip'n Chick'n is partially sliced into strips before being marinated with a blend of cayenne, habañero, white and black peppers, and then is hand battered, breaded, and cooked up in Popeyes signature crispy batter.

It comes with Cajun Fries and a buttermilk biscuit for $3.99.

My Rip'n Chick'n somewhat resembled octopus tentacles or a deformed hand that fell into the fryer but was thankfully chicken.
It was pretty mild in flavor with just a hint of peppery heat. I don't know if my local Popeyes got their wires crossed but my order came with a little bottle of Tabasco sauce (I did have to ask for Ranch sauce though); the same bottle that's supposed to come with the limited-come-and-gone Wicked Chicken.

The batter was nice and crispy but also only mildly seasoned which makes for good dipping but I was expecting a little more spice from the description.
Mostly, Rip'n Chick'n tastes like Popeyes' Louisiana Tenders or Wicken Chicken or other Popeyes chicken strip product. The gimmick of ripping strips off might appeal to small children but isn't going to matter to most people. Still, it's offered at a promotion price making it cheaper than the equivalent in Tenders while offering the same experience (well except for the slight effort required to rip).
