Review: McDonald's - Chicken McBites

Following the footsteps of KFC, McDonald's is out with new, limited-time Chicken McBites which are battered and deep-fried bite-sized pieces of chicken breast.

I got a "shareable"-sized 10-ounce box for $4.99.

These are good if you like the taste of fried chicken batter with little in the way of chicken. The chicken to batter ratio is pretty disappointing as is the size of the pieces which actually might be smaller than KFC's Popcorn Chicken (or rather the size KFC's Popcorn Chicken used to be before they started making them bigger).

The batter itself is pleasant and crunchy (even the next day). The taste is described as "home style" which I take to mean a little bit of onion power, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. I think "home style" is a pretty good description of that. It's a subtle seasoned blend and doesn't get in the way of dipping.

The chicken is miniscule and, as a result, dry. You might get lucky to get them juicy if they're fresh from the fryer but otherwise I imagine they'd dry out pretty fast.

My big problem with McDonald's Chicken McBites is I want more chicken. If the chicken piece were twice the size and didn't resemble leftover trimmings, I'd be a lot happier with the product. That being said, they're fine if you just like fried batter with a bit, and I mean a bit, of chicken.
