Frozen Friday: Marie Callender's - Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

Marie Callender's frozen Spaghetti with Meat Sauce sets itself apart from similar frozen entrees with a slice of seasoned garlic bread.

I got this 15-ounce box for $2.50 but they typically go for around $4.49 at my local supermarket.

I think I've mentioned before but spaghetti is one of those things that are really hard to screw up. As long as there's some tomatoes and some seasoning, you're in pretty good shape. Tomatoes? Seasoning? Check. Check.

Marie does a fine spaghetti sauce. Good consistency, good flavor, and plenty of meat. Good stuff.

The noodles however were just okay, a little soft and they had a bit of a watery sheen to them that seemed to repel the sauce a bit resulting in a few rather tasteless bites.
The garlic bread is definitely a nice touch. I recommend microwaving it for maybe 15 to 20 seconds and then just finishing it in a toaster oven or, if you don't have one, a pan. You can use it to mop up the leftover sauce or just eat it on its own.

Marie Callender's Spaghetti and Meat Sauce gets a plus in my book; Good sauce, meatiness, and garlic bread go a long way.

  1. It would be fun for a firm invaded by that Chef Ramsey chap to heat up some frozen spaghetti (or canned...whatever tastes better for mass-made for the human herd glop) and slip it in as being in-house made.

If Chef Ramsey gave it a thumbs up, perhaps saying it was the only decent stuff on the menu... then reveal the source.....

likely THAT would be edited out of the end result show to the public on his TV show.

Oh.... good review and, as typical, sharp, clear well-taken pics of the vittles.

  2. That's a funny idea, although I think Ramsey could detect even a good microwavable dinner as not homemade.

If I were trying it, I'd go with something from Michael Angelo's. They make great tasting frozen pasta entrees. I still think Ramsey would complain about the texture though.
