Review: McDonald's - Shamrock Shake

McDonald's Shamrock Shake is a seasonal St. Patty's Day-themed shake and blends mint-flavored syrup with reduced fat vanilla ice cream and tops it off with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry.

I paid $1.89 for small 12-ounce size at a local McDonald's.

This was actually the first Shamrock Shake I've ever had. I'd seen it before, but I'd never actually got one.

Aesthetically, I would have preferred a uniform green shake. I think it would fit the holiday better and the swirled white and green color makes the shake look like it isn't blended well.

The shake had a good, balanced thickness; not too watery and not too thick. Perfect for drinking up a straw. I don't know that McDonald's keeps their ice cream at a constant temperature so your mileage might vary.

The flavor is a creamy, cool mint flavor with a vanilla undertone. I think the vanilla is a little too strong and mint is more of a complementary flavor (which is why mint chip is a regular ice cream flavor and mint not so much). It's not bad but I think I'd rather have McDonald's chocolate shake with the mint syrup blended in.
