Review: Starbucks - Petite Brown Sugar Walnut Tart

Starbucks Brown Sugar Walnut Tart is one of the new Petite Pies and Tarts they started to offer this Spring. It features brown sugar, cinnamon, and walnuts mixed in a buttery shortbread crust, topped with cinnamon streusel and a white glaze drizzle.

They're normally $1.50 each but I picked up two for $2 under a recent promotion.

I hadn't intended on getting the Brown Sugar Walnut Tart; I actually asked for a chocolate hazelnut but received the Brown Sugar Walnut one instead. Now that I look at the Starbucks website, I guess they didn't have any Chocolate ones at my local Starbucks when I went.

While I wasn't too enamored by Starbucks' Petite Apple Pie, the Brown Sugar Walnut Tart was actually pretty good if a combination of more subtle flavors.

It starts with crumbly, crusty, short bread like crust drizzled with a light sweet drizzle of glaze. I started by warming it up a bit in the toaster oven. It's like a warm, crisp cookie.

Unlike the Apple Pie where there wasn't too much apple flavor, I could actually taste the walnuts in the brown sugar filling; it gives a bit of that baklava taste but without the sometimes excessive cloying sweetness that comes with.

There aren't too many desserts that carry the taste of walnuts, so a definite "try" for walnut fans.
