I bought one for $1.19 which is a little more than the 99 cent crunchy version.
I'm a big fan of the standard Taco Bell Crunchy Taco, and their hot sauce always does the trick for me when I feel like a little more spice so I'm not really the Volcano Taco's target audience.
That being said, the Volcano Taco packs some devious and serious heat. It's the kind where you're eating it and think, "Oh, this isn't so bad" and then it hits you and the tongue starts to burn.
The sauce is a slightly cheesy, tomato-y mayo that packs some wicked heat from red jalapenos. It's not bad but I prefer plain old hot sauce better. Still, it went well enough with the shredded lettuce, cheddar cheese, and seasoned beef.
If you're looking for something a fair bit more spicy at Taco Bell, you should give it a go. Me? I'll stick to the original.

I think the lava sauce is more like nacho cheese and hot sauce mixed together. It reminds me of when I used to get the Grande soft tacos that had the nacho cheese in them and load 'em up with hot sauce.
ReplyDeleteI love the Volcano Tacos! The hot sauce is just hot enough for me and I could eat about 2-3 of these at a time. This is the only taco I never add fire sauce to because it might conflict with the taste of the Volcano sauce. The red shell is a beauty as well.
ReplyDeleteThis thing is awesome! I love the sauce, the plain fire sauce just doesn't do it for me after eating volcano sauce. Most of the stores I stop at will give me a side of volcano sauce for 40 cents, which I then slather on whatever I ordered. Makes for a great meal!!!!
