Hershey's Zero candy bar is a bit of an oddity in the candy bar world with a snow white layer of white fudge on the outside. Inside, there's a mix of caramel plus peanut and almond nougat.
It's not originally a Hershey's product but it's theirs now. I bought a bar from a local drugstore for $1.
I'm not sure why it's called a "Zero" bar; then again, I don't know why a Kit Kat is called a "Kit Kat" either. Still, the name "Zero" makes you think it might be a low-calorie, no-sugar, or something. It is none of those; just your typical but non-chocolate candy bar.
The filling looks like a chocolate nougat but it's not; it's mostly just sweet and nutty. Like almond nutty. The white fudge adds a sweet creaminess but I think I just would rather have chocolate in this instance.
The caramel just adds more sugar to an already cloyingly sweet candy bar.
The overall effect is mostly just really sweet and almond nutty. I'm not a fan. I can see people who like that distinctive almond nuttiness going to this though.

I think it is called a "Zero" bar because of the color being the color of snow or the arctic.
ReplyDeleteAh! That makes sense! Thanks for commenting!
ReplyDeleteIm eating one now..i picked one up while waiting in line a walmart with my girl. I do not eat much candy (well at least that is what I told my gf) but the wrapping caught my attention. so Now with the lady gone for the night I finally opened zero..and the white surprized the sh!t out of me! It is dark inthe room so I didnt know if it was a whole bar or bricked..so took that first bite..and WOW..though very Rich..everybite was filling...and gave me that guilty pleasure. Thank god that is what a candy bar is Suppose to b ALL about!
ReplyDeleteThey call it Zero because they used to suggest eating them frozen (at 'Zero' degrees), but I think that would break your teeth. Still, it's my favorite candy bar...white chocolate candy is so hard to find in the US, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteAh. That's kinda neat. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI just read in the last few days of a new white chocolate and cookie creation by Dove Bar..you can check it out at another site...can I say what it is.....Candyblog.net..
ReplyDeleteHershey's already does a cookies and cream bar though. I'm still waiting for Nestle to bring back the Alpine White bar... White chocolate and almonds!
ReplyDeleteMy thought exactly! I LOVE white chocolate, but I'm tired of the white chocolate with cookie pieces. I wish they'd do something different. I love White Chocolate Reese's (the regular size, not the minis, which aren't as good) and Zero bars, but they're so hard to find. A different White Chocolate combo would be great, like almonds, hazelnuts, or caramel. Or really, why not just plain white chocolate? They discontinued the White Crunch, which was the closest thing. :(
