With the Summer Olympics just around the corner,
McDonald's Australia and nearby
McDonald's New Zealand celebrate with similar limited-time
"Flavours of the Games" menus in honor of the Olympics. The featured items provide an interesting if eyebrow-raising look at what McDonald's has come up with to represent past Olympic games.
Here are the items:
The Beijing Chicken
A crispy chicken patty, cucumber, lettuce, sweet chili sauce, and mayo on a sesame seed bun. I don't see the relation at all. Why's it always chicken for China/East Asia?
The Sydney Stack
A beef patty, back bacon, pineapple, beetroot, lettuce, onions, and barbecue sauce on a sesame seed bun.
The Barcelona Omelette
A spicy chorizo omelette, back bacon, cheese, and tomato relish on a toasted English muffin.
The Atlanta Pork McRib
Er, I think we all know this one here in the States.
London Fish & Fries
Three pieces of battered and fried fish pieces and tartar sauce with McDonald's Fries. I'm pretty sure they call fries "chips" in Australia though, so the names a bit weird.
Australia Only:
Paris Choc Delight
Three chocolate dessert bites, topped with soft serve, hot fudge, and pink and white marshmallows. Really? What does this have to do with Paris? Marshmallows, ice cream, and what looks to be three chocolate donut holes?
New Zealand Only:
Athens Apricot and Peach Pie
Apricots and peaches in a deep-fried McDonald's pie. Are peaches a thing in Greece? I really don't know.
Kiwi Brekkie McMuffin
A sausage patty, fried egg, potato rosti, back bacon, and tomato relish on an English muffin. Kinda random and un-Olympic related but celebrates the home country I guess. It's like the Big Breakfast as a sandwich.
