Review: Denny's - Southern Slam

Denny's new Southern Slam is something they're offering as part of a Tour of America promotional menu. The meal includes two eggs, two strips of bacon or two sausage links,
a side of grits, and a open-faced biscuit with sausage gravy except they ran out of biscuits and I was left with an English muffin instead.

The price is not too bad at $5.99.

Okay, so the lack of biscuit was pretty disappointing. I mean it was kinda the main reason to buy the Southern Slam. That being said, the English muffin is actually a fairly interesting substitute. Not as good as a biscuit, but it lends some chewiness and was at least toasted well. The gravy was pretty nice; creamy and slightly peppery with bits of sausage.

I got the eggs scrambled. They turned out pretty well; not too dry and not too runny. I liked the sausage links as well; they had a good peppery flavor to them.

The grits were really clumpy. They put some butter on top, but it wasn't "creamy" as advertised, and on the whole was pretty bland.

Overall, it was just okay for me. I would have like better cooked grits and a fresh biscuit (or just a biscuit in general) but I liked the eggs and sausage (but those are the easiest things to make at home).
