Review: Nestle - Caramel Pretzel Ice Cream Bar

The Nestle Caramel Pretzel Ice Cream Bar is a relatively new addition to their line up of chocolate-covered ice cream bars (technically chocolaty-covered frozen dairy dessert bars) that replaces the standard vanilla ice cream with a caramel-flavored ice cream and adds pretzel bits to the chocolaty coating.

A box of six retails for $4.79 at my local supermarket, but it's not uncommon to find them on sale for $2 to $3.

I didn't get a real taste for the pretzel in these. To be sure, they added a lot of crunch, but it was fairly indistinguishable from, say, the crispy rice of a Nestle Crunch bar. Basically, crunch without much flavor. They weren't salted pretzel bits, which might have provided a nice interchange with the caramel-flavored ice cream. I was hoping for more pretzel flavor.

The chocolaty coating was pretty standard and very milk chocolaty, but not particularly rich.

The ice cream had a decent if artificial caramel flavor, though it lacked that caramel buttery-ness. I found it rather generic, but still good.

In the end, it's not much of a notable variation from the standard chocolate-covered vanilla ice cream bar.
