Review: McDonald's - Daily Double

McDonald's Daily Double is a new Extra Value Menu item and McDouble variant featuring two beef patties, a slice of American cheese, slivered onions, a thick slice of tomato, shredded lettuce, and mayo on a plain toasted hamburger bun.

It's not nearly a value as the McDouble as it carries a price tag of $1.99.

The first thing I noticed biting into the Daily Double was the lack of ketchup or any sour bite. It makes for a blander burger eating experience (I recommend just getting a packet of ketchup and squeezing a little on). There was a fair bit of mayo, but it wasn't too flavorful.

There's a pretty good beef to bun ratio and without any strong flavors, I got a good taste of McDonald's beef which probably could have used a bit more salt and pepper on the grill.

The cheese was very nicely melted between the beef patties.

The bun wasn't toasted very well. It's like they only managed to toast the very edges.

The strongest flavor in the Daily Double might actually have come from the onions, which were fresh, crisp, and delivered a good bite. The tomatos and lettuce were fairly good quality as well.

Overall, the Daily Double doesn't really stand out... at all. It misses any hint of an acidic zing to bring out the flavors of the burger. I like that I get some veggies, but I would opt for the regular McDouble and save myself the extra dollar.
