Review: McDonald's - French Vanilla Latte

McDonald's new French Vanilla Latte features a new French Vanilla syrup that replaces the plain vanilla syrup. The French Vanilla syrup is accompanied by fresh brewed espresso and foamed steamed milk.

A small goes for $2.29, but I got this one for free courtesy of a coupon provided by McDonald's.

The first thing I noticed was a pleasant vanilla aroma from sniffing the cup. The temperature of the cup was hot, but just cool enough to drink. While this is nice if you're sitting down to linger over a cup like I was, I worry that if you're getting it to-go, like many do, you end up with a lukewarm cup by the time you drink it.

If you're turned off by the darker roast of Starbucks, McDonald's offers a smoother coffee bean roast. There was a decent vanilla flavor though none of the eggy custard taste of that I think when of when I think "French Vanilla."

Still, it was pretty good coffee; not too sweet nor bitter and tempered with the creaminess of the milk.

The milk could be foamed a little nicer; it was a bit too bubbly, but I expected as much since the milk steaming at McDonald's is automated along with the espresso brewing.

Overall, a very nice cup of coffee. I've never had a hot Vanilla Latte from McDonald's before, but I have tried an iced one; this was much better than the iced version with the old syrup.
