Review: Pepperidge Farm - Milano Minis Candy Cane Cookies

Pepperidge Farm Milano Minis Candy Cane cookies are exclusive to Target and are miniature versions of Pepperidge Farm's sandwich cookies with a layer of candy cane flavored filling to go with the standard dark chocolate.

I picked up a 5-ounce package on sale for $2.50.

If you're familiar with Milano cookies (if you're not, Milanos have a dark chocolate filling and a slightly crispy, slightly airy texture), the Minis are a little less than half the size and bite-sized as a result. The size is a bit of a novelty that probably appeals to kids or if you relish the thought of eating Milanos by the handful.

The peppermint color isn't quite candy-cane red and looks a bit like candle wax. I think they might have been better off just going without the food coloring. Not as festive I know, but more appetizing.

The taste is most similar to Mint Milanos but wasn't as minty or good. The peppermint here was light and didn't quite strike me as the flavor of candy canes either (at least not the way I was just popping them in my mouth; I later ate one slowly and enjoying them in that fashion gives a much better candy cane flavor). It wasn't bad, but it didn't have me thinking of candy canes nor Christmas.

If you're looking for holiday cookies from Pepperidge Farm, I'd go with the "Gingerman" gingerbread cookies. If you're looking for Milanos specifically, I'd stick with Mint Milanos. I'm not saying Pepperidge Farm's Milano Minis Candy Cane cookies are bad, but they are disappointing on the "candy cane" front.
