Lean Cuisine now offers new Salad Additions in the frozen food aisle. Each box consists of everything you need to make your next salad except for the lettuce.
If you're like me, you're wondering, "How does that work?" or "Uh, why would you want a frozen salad? I don't get it." Basically the way these work is you heat up the chicken and fruits/vegetables, thaw out the salad dressing, and throw on the crunchy starch. What they don't include is the lettuce, you have pick that up yourself.
There are four different varieties and they are:
- Asian-Style Chicken Salad with Sesame Ginger Vinaigrette: Grilled white meat chicken, edamame, pineapple, broccoli, and yellow & orange carrots with crispy noodles.
- Southwest-Style Chicken Salad with Chipotle Ranch Dressing: Grilled white meat chicken, black beans, sweet corn, roasted red peppers, and poblano peppers with tortilla strips.
- Cranberry & Chicken Salad with Raspberry Cabernet Vinaigrette: Grilled white meat chicken, dried cranberries, broccoli, red onions, yellow carrots, and a blend of whole grains with sesame sticks.
- Bistro Chicken Salad with Sweet & Tangy Vinaigrette with Bacon: Grilled white meat chicken, asparagus, yellow carrots, and red peppers with crispy onion straws.
You can find them in the frozen food section of your local grocers now.

I think if I really wanted a "salad kit", I would buy one of the bagged ones from the produce aisle that already include the lettuce/greens. (And actually I don't even like those... I prefer to make my own salads.) Why on earth would I want to buy a frozen salad kit, heat it up, and add my own lettuce? It doesn't exactly conjure up an image of freshness... or flavor... nor does it really seem that convenient.
ReplyDeleteHmm I dunno, I think it's an interesting idea. I can think of a few times where we just had lettuce in the house with not much to go with it... to have something in the freezer for those occasions might be nice. It's not something I'd want often, but once in a while I could see the value to this, if the taste is decent.
