Review: Burger King - Philly Original Chicken Sandwich

Burger King's Philly Original Chicken Sandwich is a limited-time offer featuring a long breaded chicken patty topped Philly cheesesteak-style with red and green bell peppers, seasoned grilled onions, American cheese, and a cheese sauce.

The sandwich sells for $4.49 at my local Burger King.

I'm not a huge fan of cheese on chicken in general and especially not American cheese. Somehow it turns out okay in Burger King's Philly Original Chicken Sandwich though.

I had admittedly low expectations for this sandwich. Not because I'm from Philly (I'm not) and have a very set idea of what a Philly Cheesesteak is (I kinda do, but not if it's from a fast food chain), but because it didn't look very appetizing even in the professionally done promotional photos.

The cheese sauce and the cheese slices actually turned out a pretty good cheese flavor reminiscent of Cheez Whiz. There's a lot of cheese going on, but it doesn't overpower the rest of the sandwich.

The sesame bun is solid: very soft and prone to squishing, but durable against the liquid cheese.

The peppers added a good amount of flavor and a just a touch of sweetness. I think some more onions would have been nice though.

My chief complaint with BK's Chicken Sandwich is that the patty is way too salty. They need to halve the sodium on that sucker and it would taste so much better. Every time I've eaten one, I feel like I've met my salt quota for the day. Other than that, it feels like eating a giant breaded chicken nugget (which may be good or bad depending on your preference).

Overall, the patty kinda ruined Burger King's Philly Original Chicken Sandwich for me. The rest of the sandwich was decent to good, but the salt is a bit too much for my liking.
