The nearest Krispy Kreme sells them for $1.19.
Biting into one of these reminded me a lot of eating a cupcake, which I guess shouldn't be a surprise with a cake donut and Kreme for frosting.
The chocolate cake donut was moist and had a bit of dark chocolate notes, which I figure comes from the Oreos, and isn't too sweet. It was however glazed and iced which was really pushing it sugar-wise.
The little Oreo pieces on top add a bit of that familiar Oreo crunch and contrasts well with the soft donut.
The Oreo-flavored Kreme was really tasty and like cookies and cream ice cream, but as a whipped topping. It was thick enough to balance on the edges of the donut's hole without falling through.
Overall, I liked Krispy Kreme's Oreo Cake Donut. It's like a fried Oreo cupcake and every component had a little bit of an Oreo touch to it. The glaze plus icing made it a bit overly-sweet for me though.

I find most of KK's donuts (or rather doughnuts) to be overly sweet. Glazing them just kills it for me. I wonder if you could specially order one without the glaze... (and if you could you would probably have to order in advance and and more than one)
ReplyDeleteI've gotten the Original Glazed without the glazed since they can just grab it off the conveyor.
ReplyDeleteI think depending on the location, they might not make all the donuts in the display in-stores and might get them shipped daily from a distribution bakery instead, which makes it a no-go on customization.
Even though I'm not the biggest Oreo fan, I feel some inexplicable need to try this. Are you planning on the other Krispy Kreme Oreo donut as well?
ReplyDeleteYup.
ReplyDeleteHaha, somehow I missed typing the word 'reviewing' in there, but I'm glad you were still able to figure out what I meant.
ReplyDeleteWay too sweet with the excess icing! But that Kreme is magnificent...
