My local Arby's serves them up for $4.99, but I received this one courtesy of Arby's. Double meat was also an option for an additional buck.
I'm going to preface this review by saying that, while I've eaten my fair share of pastrami sandwiches, I've never had a Reuben before.
The rye bread is super squishy soft, but thick enough to hold up against the sandwich's filling. While, I liked the bread's softness, I wished the crust was more... crusty. Or rather, I wish that it wasn't as about soft as the crumb, only chewier. The rye flavor was light, but held its own in the sandwich. The toasting wasn't noticeable texture-wise.
There was a decent amount of corned beef and it was really flavorful. Unlike Arby's roasted beef, which is razor-thin, the corned beef was sliced slightly thicker and delivered a satisfying meat texture. It was just slightly dry, however, and the distribution could have been better. Rather than an even, uniform layer of corned beef to lie on the bread, the meat was clumped up in the center, leaving bites at the sandwich edge to be full of crust and not much else.
I didn't notice the Swiss much other than a slight creaminess. It was kinda mixed into the sauerkraut.
The sauerkraut was used sparingly and delivered a tangy bite.
The Thousand Island sauce added a creamy, slightly sweet tanginess that meshed well with the Swiss and sauerkraut.
Overall, besides the all-crust bites at the edges, I thoroughly enjoyed Arby's Reuben sandwich. I especially like the flavor of the corned beef paired with the sauerkraut and Thousand Island. The price is on the high end for a fast food sandwich, but is in-line with Arby's other Market Fresh sandwiches.
