The ice cream gets its name/gimmick from a thin metallic gold shell on top of the typical Belgium milk chocolate shell of the ice cream bars. Inside is vanilla bean ice cream swirled with sea salt caramel.
A 10.14-ounce box of three bars retails for $3.99, but I received these for free from Unilever.
I've tried the Mini versions and found the sea salt caramel a bit light. Since Unilever also sent me a box of the Mini ones I'd thought it'd be nice to compare the two. Their wrappers actually have different designs:
A black scheme for the Magnum Gold Minis and Gold for the regular-sized bars. The Minis are a little more than half the size of the regular versions. The thickness is the same, but the length and width are smaller:
With the similar thickness, the sea salt caramel expresses itself in the same way in both bars. That is a light, pleasant caramel flavor that blends into the vanilla. I really didn't taste any sea salt and, if it were up to me, would just re-label it as plain "caramel." I'd prefer it with more salt though. The vanilla ice cream itself is rich, super-smooth, and creamy.
I've mentioned before that the thick milk chocolate shell cracks into sizable pieces that sometimes threaten to fall off and it did. Sadly, one piece fell onto the floor and I'm not ashamed to say that I picked it up, blew on it lightly, and savored the milk chocolate as it melted in my mouth. Still good!
Overall, Magnum Gold is a solid super-premium novelty ice cream bar. It offers plenty of rich milk chocolate paired with creamy vanilla ice cream and a light touch of caramel, but isn't much different than the original Magnum bar (which is just milk chocolate and vanilla ice cream). The main draw here over other Magnum bars is if you want to eat a slightly metallic-looking, golden, chocolate ice cream bar.

Just had one. It was good overall, but I think it lacked flavor personality overall with the exception of its girth. For the price and packaging I was expecting the vanilla bean to have a more bold taste.
