I picked up an 8.6-ounce package for $2.69.
Hints of spiced carrot cake aroma wafted up as I opened the package; the smell is close, but not quite the same. The cookies themselves are very soft and orange, although more likely from food coloring than from carrots.
There are some good-sized pecan bits in the cookie, but they're slightly on the soft side. There are bits of carrots as well, but they felt dried, chewy, and kinda hard compared to what you'd find in a carrot cake; probably because cookies have to be more shelf-stable than a cake (apparently they're dehydrated). Still, the texture of the carrots is off-putting. While it lets you know, "Hey, this is carrot cake," I could have done without them.
The cookie itself has an okay carrot cake flavor to it. Can't say I'm a fan, but it's not horrible. The bites where you get the cream cheese-flavored chunks get really sweet. It's reminiscent of the cream cheese frosting of carrot cake, which can also sometimes be really sweet.
Overall, I'd give Pepperidge Farm's Carrot Cake Cookies a pass unless you're really curious to try them. Personally, I would have rather Pepperidge Farm try their own take on a carrot cookie rather than try and transfer the carrot cake experience into a cookie. At the very least, they really need to get rid of those carrot bits.
