I picked up one with pepperoni for $12.99.
The center of the pizza is the same as Pizza Hut's regular hand-tossed pizza, which is to say it tastes like warm, slightly-sweet, fresh-baked, soft, dense bread, topped with a sweet and tangy pizza sauce, crisp pepperoni, and cheese. I prefer it over their overly-greasy pan pizza.
The Crazy Cheesy Crust pockets are not very easy to tear off from the main body; you can't just pinch them off like in the promo pictures. I had to use a two-hand approach to tear them from the pizza. It's basically the same effort as it takes to tear a normal slice in half. The Cheesy Bites Pizza was superior in this respect; you just grabbed and twisted and the Cheesy Bite was yours.
Beyond the difficulties in tearing them out for snacking, the pockets were fairly doughy and developed a nicely crispy crust. There's no sauce in the pockets, just a thick melted blend of five cheeses: asiago, fontina, mozzarella, provolone, and white cheddar.
Perhaps, due to the lack of sauce, I could actually taste the various cheeses in the blend, although I couldn't pick out any one specifically.
While cold pizza is a breakfast staple for some, the Crazy Cheesy Crust isn't so great cold as the crust hardens a little and the cheese congeals into a thick coin and doesn't taste so great. Heating it up in a toaster oven works wonder though: the cheese in the crust becomes stretchy and the crust itself delivers a satisfying crunch.
In the end, the Crazy Cheesy Crust Pizza isn't really crazy so much as it is a little weird, but not in a bad way. It sits just slightly lower than the Cheesy Bites Pizza for me. They're similar concepts and while the Crazy Cheesy Crust offers more cheese, the Cheesy Bites is better executed. Still, there's not much reason for the pizza portion to each, and I'd like to see either of these concepts offered as a side dish.
