While McDonald's doesn't offer any country-themed menus here in the U.S., they're a bit of a thing for McDonald's abroad and a popular theme is our very own USA. As such the "Great Tastes of America" menu has returned for a limited time in the UK and boasts five burgers, each drawing on a major U.S. city or state for inspiration, and each only available for a week(!).
Considering our burgers don't quite have the regional specificity that our pizzas do, the burgers would probably bemuse the inhabitants of their respective locales about as much as the English Pub Burger McDonald's tested here would induce bewilderment over in the UK. While, they look fairly similar, you'll find that some of the burgers sound quite good regardless of whether you think they have anything to do with the US.
Currently on offer is the Louisiana BBQ, which is a long, cheese-topped bun filled with a beef patty, bacon, BBQ sauce, slivered onions, shredded lettuce, and cheese. If I were thinking a Louisiana burger, I'd probably go for a creole theme and top it with crawfish or maybe some gumbo. A gumbo burger sounds pretty good!
For week 2 (May 8 to 14), McDonald's taps Chicago with the Chicago Supreme, featuring a beef patty, shredded lettuce, bacon, onions, cheese slices, spicy tomato salsa, and cool mayo, all in a chilli, chive and sesame topped bun.
During week 3 (May 15 to 21), the Arizona Nacho Grande arrives. It aims for a bit of Southwest flair with a beef patty topped with "nacho-style" sauce, shredded lettuce, pepperoni (I'm not sure how the standard pizza topping got in the mix), nacho chips and cheese with peppers, on a sesame bun.
Week 4 (May 22 to 28) brings with it the California Melt, which features a beef patty topped with cheese sauce, slivered onions, shredded lettuce, bacon, and cheese slices with peppers, on a sesame bun.
Finally, during week 5 (May 29 to June 4), there's the New York Classic, which comes with a chilli, chive, and sesame-topped bun sandwiching a beef patty, red onion rings, shredded lettuce, cheese slices, bacon, mustard, ketchup, and mayo.
It's a shame McDonald's doesn't do such menus here in the US.

These don't make any sense, whatsoever. Even for a foreigner. What idiot in McD's HQ said "Nacho flavor! Gotta add pepperoni!"
ReplyDeleteFail
A California themed burger with no avocado? That's a first.
ReplyDeleteAs a Chicagoan, the Chicago-themed burger is making me scratch my head.
ReplyDeleteI'm an American in the UK and these burgers make no sense to me whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteThe human herd from Bannination is invading this post.
ReplyDeleteanyone know the theme tune for the advert?
ReplyDeleteWhat the effing eff is pepperoni doing on an Arizona/Mexico themed burger?
ReplyDeleteThe other ones are a fail, I agree, but the Nacho Grande is definitely not a fail. I tried ALL of them and the nacho grande has the best flavour, it is actually different than any other burger I've had before and that's a nice change. You're just being prejudiced against the burger, next time it is on sale have a go and you may change your mind.
ReplyDeleteIt is not the normal thing, it was a spicy kind.
