News: Sonic - New Pretzel Dogs

Wendy's might have their vaulted Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger, but Sonic is going with new, limited-time Pretzel Dogs this summer.

Citing the "the age-old summertime dilemma of hot dog versus pretzel" at the ballpark, Sonic now offers the Cheesy Bacon Pretzel Dog and Original Pretzel Dog as a solution.

The Cheesy Bacon Pretzel Dog features a premium beef hot dog in a warm, soft pretzel bun topped with bacon, grilled onions, and warm cheese sauce, while the Original Pretzel Dog is topped instead with just mustard.

Both hot dogs are available through August 11 at participating Sonic Drive-In restaurants.

Other notable pretzel dog offerings this summer include pretzel-wrapped hot dogs at any number of soft pretzel chains, including Auntie Anne's, and a pretzel bun option at Wienerschnitzel.

    WOW! I had the cheesy bacon one. OMG! It was great! price here in Texas was around 2.29 I think. I love it and thinking about going back this weekend for another.

    The cheesy bacon one WAS delicious... best hotdog ive ever had besides a coney :) really great and perfect pretzel bun.

    Update: My local Sonic has "run out" of the pretzel buns due to much higher than expected demand. As others have noted, the Cheezy Bacon version was terrific. Apparently, the supplier of the pretzel bun cannot produce them quickly enough and the local outlet is giving out lots of discount coupons to draw back disappointed customers.
