Review: Cracker Jack'D Salted Caramel Sweet 'n Savory Clusters

Cracker Jack'D Salted Caramel Sweet 'n Savory Clusters feature popcorn covered in a layer of buttery salted caramel and small almond pieces.

A 3.125-ounce bag goes for a suggested retail price of $2.49, but I received this bag courtesy of Cracker Jack'D/Frito Lay.

While regular Cracker Jacks have always had that standard caramel coating, these deviate a bit from those and taste more like the buttery toffee flavor on the same variety of Fiddle Faddle.

The color of the caramel is a bit muted, but the buttery notes were there in full force. Along with the wonderfully buttery caramel, there's a hint of almond but the almond pieces themselves are lost in the coating texture-wise. I liked that it wasn't too sweet.

That being said, some pieces were way too salty and I found myself occasionally assailed by the sharp bite of it (these actually have more salt than a similarly-weighted portion of the savory snack mixes).

Overall, I liked the buttery caramel and the almonds in Cracker Jack'D Salted Caramel Sweet 'n Savory Clusters, but they really overdid it on the "salted" bit.

  1. I completely agree on the salt factor. This stuff is really salty. The beauty of salted caramel is the way the flavors play together, but this is just too salty -- no balance. Some bites felt like I just shook a salt shaker over my tongue. I feel like my blood pressure is going up, that kind of salty. I like salt, but this is too much!
