Review: McDonald's - Dulce De Leche Shake

McDonald's Dulce De Leche Shake is a new seasonal shake they're serving through September. It's essentially a caramel shake and features reduced fat vanilla ice cream blended with a "dulce de leche shake syrup", swirled with caramel sauce, and topped with whipped cream plus a maraschino cherry.

A 12-ounce small goes for $1.89 around here, but I received this one courtesy of McDonald's.

Depending on where you're sipping, McDonald's Dulce De Leche Shake is either sweet or super sweet. The milkshake itself tastes a lot like Kraft's caramel cubes; it's not rich or super buttery, but it's definitely caramel. It's when I got a bit of the sauce that lined the cup wall where the shake went overboard with sugar. You need to possess a huge sweet tooth to really enjoy this shake.

Other than the standard caramel flavor and abundance of sugar, the Dulce De Leche Shake hits a really good mark in terms of thickness and consistency. It's just thick enough to be substantial, but not so thick that you need a spoon.

Overall, McDonald's Dulce De Leche gives you a familiar caramel flavor and lots of sweetness. It's way too sweet for me though (I prefer their Caramel Sundae when the mood strikes).
