Review: Krispy Kreme - Dark Chocolate Caramel Kreme Donut

Krispy Kreme's new, limited-time Dark Chocolate Caramel Kreme Donut is of the filled variety with caramel Kreme inside, and is topped with dark chocolate icing and a caramel icing swirl.

My nearest Krispy Kreme location sells them for $1.19 a pop.

These are yeast donuts and the one I got was pretty fresh with that same wonderfully soft, cloud-like texture of a Krispy Kreme Glazed Original and just a slight crust.

The filling inside is like whipped cream in feel. It had just a hint of caramel and was mostly just sweet.

The chocolate on top is nice though. The bitter notes of the icing helps cut against its sweetness. I can't say the caramel icing swirl added much beyond a nice design and more sugar though. They might want to try drizzling some real caramel on as customers order them. I think that'd be pretty tasty.

Overall, Krispy Kreme's Dark Chocolate Caramel Kreme Donut ends up more like a Dark Chocolate Kreme Donut, which is nice but not exactly as advertised.
