Frozen Friday: Boston Market - Meatloaf Frozen Dinner

Boston Market's Meatloaf frozen dinner eschews the standard vegetable side and comes with just mashed potatoes and gravy, and a fair bit of it too, considering it weighs in at almost a pound.

A 15-ounce box was $2.50 on sale.

They give you a lot of mashed potatoes here. I'd guess it's at least half the weight of the meal. It's of the instant powder variety, which is pretty normal in frozen meals. The consistency was smooth and creamy without any graininess you might get from lesser meals.

The meat loaf is made with a blend of beef, pork, breadcrumbs, and Romano cheese and was a little too smooth and gummy all the way through. It could stand to benefit from a coarser grind and more browning. The flavor was nice and accentuated by a thin, broth-like, savory brown gravy. The standard for the actual Boston Market meatloaf is more of a traditional ketchup-like sauce, so it's a bit of an odd choice. Brown gravy seems the norm for most frozen meatloaf meals though.

Overall, except for the hefty amount of mashed potatoes, Boston Markets's Meatloaf frozen dinner was decent enough but a bit generic. If you took the pantheon of meat loaf frozen dinner it would fall straight in the middle.
