I ordered a 12-ounce "Tall" size for $3.65.
According to the Starbucks website, these are supposed to be topped with whipped cream, but mine was not and I wasn't offered the option.
Mixing hot cocoa and chai tea together seems like a pretty offbeat combination... and it is.
My initial sip was all milky chai so I was feeling pretty good at that point. There's an enjoyable sweet, spiced tea flavor to it.
I tried to dig through the foam to get at the liquid and failed... |
The chai spices and cocoa flavor just don't mesh very well. It gets a little too busy and they don't complement each other. It's a little like drinking two different beverages at the same time... but in a bad way.
Overall, Starbucks Chocolate Chai Tea Latte was a swing and a miss in my book. The aftertaste of both black tea and cocoa was pretty distasteful and the rest just didn't fit together. This is one of those things where you think, "Oh, that doesn't sound very good" and it wasn't. You might try it just out of curiosity but I'll stick with one or the other.

Really? Who da hell is thinking up these things!?! The whole thing is just like a rubix cube.
ReplyDeleteThis pizza is WRONG in so many ways ... LOL
ReplyDeleteDoes Starbucks even bother test-tasting their new items anymore? Or has just become, let's see what we can sell in our panty? Hot cocoa? Check. Chai tea? Check. Let's combine it!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree! Tried it yesterday. Revolting. I was so disappointed!
ReplyDeletei thought it was delicious. Especially dirty. Chocolate Chai Tea latte + 1 shot of expresso. Excellent.
ReplyDeleteI also love it. A little bit of whipped creme on top mellows the spice out a bit.
ReplyDeleteI tried it this morning out of curiosity. Wish I hadn't wasted my money. Tasted like a watered down hot chololate with a horrible hint of chai. Give me my "normal" chain latte any day. Big swing and a miss Starbucks!
ReplyDeletetotally agree! I dumped almost all of it...
ReplyDeletei got a 50% off coupon to try this drink, but i didn't want to get it and not like it. sooooo, since we have chai tea k-cups and hot chocolate machine at work, i made myself a cup of these two drinks combined and i didn't like it. it's kinda like drinking hot chocolate with indian spices. sorry to say, but it's definitely not my cup of tea. lol.
ReplyDeleteDisappointed from the first sip. Not good, chocolate and chair togethor do not work. Did not have whip on top, which I think would have helped the flavour sonewhat to dull down the chai.
ReplyDeleteI actually love this drink. I'm on my second one right now. Pairing chocolate and chai is odd, but I've alway loved my chocolate to have a little kick on it, and the spice in the chai certainly does that. I don't think it's a swing and a miss. I think it's more of a soft bunt.
ReplyDeleteI also didn't like it (found out later it's made straight from a box!) and instead ordered a chai latte with mocha and I was satisfied.
ReplyDeleteI love Chocolate Chai Tea. It is now my favorite drink at Starbucks. To each his own.
ReplyDeleteTake off those awful toppings (on the pizza) and I'm there.
